Vinyl and the Environment
Safe, Sustainable, Durable, Recyclable Products for a Greener Tomorrow
Blackbourn's 50-year commitment & progress toward protecting the environment & its employees is greater than ever. Through our recycling & scrap reduction programs, sustainable material resourcing, supplier adherence initiatives & employee wellness programs we are responsible stewards of the environment and we are the responsible business partner right for your business.
Recycling and Scrap reduction programs- It is our practice to have as little waste as possible
coming from the products we produce.
- We engineer for minimal waste. This includes
ensuring we are doing everything possible to keep
the amount of overruns on an order to a
minimum.
- Vinyl scrap and trim from molding and
manufacturing vinyl products is recovered and
reused in the manufacturing process.
- Scrap
reduction program where we send our scrap to
another company that regrinds, reheats and
reforms it into another product. A common
application for the regrind materials would be the
square bead used for sheet rock.
- We maintain recycling programs for paper, metals
(steel, aluminum, brass, copper), bound matter,
ink cartridges, and cell phones to name a few.
Sustainable Material Resourcing
- We look at consumption levels of energy, and
materials when measuring impact.
- We ensure the packaging or machinery we design
and purchase is beneficial and safe throughout its
life cycle.
- We believe that sustainable material sourcing is
beneficial, safe & healthy for our associates and
our communities throughout its life cycle.
- We ensure that materials meet market criteria for
performance and cost.
- Blackbourn makes every effort to manufacture
using clean production technologies and best
practices.
- We have several on-going initiatives to keep us
abreast of the latest in environmental concerns.
- We are regular participants at conferences like the
Vinyl Institute.
Energy Consumption
- Our facilities are heated by propane - a very efficient and clean burning source of heat.
- Our manufacturing plant, office and warehouse temperatures are controlled by programmable thermostats which
set back the temperature after office hours and on weekends.
- We use the heat generated from our thermoforming department to heat the building.
- The lights and machinery in our production plant are arranged on a grid pattern so that only the equipment and
lighting that is needed for each day is turned on.
- Blackbourn does energy audits of its facilities. At this time, all lighting within our facilities has the most efficient lighting possible based on the audit recommendations.
